Chances are, you will experience afternoon showers during your trip. Sometimes these showers can be torrential and you will definitely want protection for you and your family. PACK PONCHOS to protect you from the rain! Plus, ponchos will come in handy for all of those fun water-based attractions.
Be sure to buy your ponchos before you go! It will save you a ton of money. Ponchos in the parks are $10 each, which adds up quickly. I recommend this 10-pack of ponchos for families. They’re small and easy to throw in a backpack.
A backpack is an necessity for Walt Disney World. Without a backpack, you will not be able to carry in all the other necessities like sunscreen, ponchos, etc. Even the most-seasoned Disney pros bring bags into the parks! Our go-to backpack is this waterproof version made by ZOMAKE. It’s super lightweight easy to fold up into a small pocket to fit anywhere. Since it’s waterproof, it will keep all of your gear safe from water-based attractions and from the inevitable pop-up rain showers.
With the advent of Disney technology (Play Disney Parks App and My Disney Experience App), carrying your cell phones in the park is essential. But checking wait times, pre-ordering your quick-service lunch and playing the interactive games can drain your phone fast! And no one wants to stay chained to a power outlet for 30 minutes while recharging. So I usually pack at least 2-3 backup batteries. Here are my faves:
Ultra-Compact Anker PowerCore 10000 – This is one of the smallest and lightest 10000mAh portable chargers. Fully charged, it provides almost three-and-a-half iPhone 8 charges or two-and-a-half Galaxy S8 charges.
Ultra High Capacity Power Bank Anker PowerCore 20100mAh – This one is heavier but it capable of charging the iPhone 7 almost seven times, the Galaxy S6 five times or the iPad mini 4 twice.
Ultra-Compact Anker PowerCore 5000 – This is the smallest external charger and looks similar in size to a mini-flashlight. It provides an entire replacement charge for iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy S9, or almost 2 charges for iPhone 8.
If you have preschool and elementary age children, then an autograph book is a must-have. This one is an official Walt Disney World autograph book for only $9.95. You will find it all over the parks for about 3x the price! Interacting with with Disney characters will make lifetime memories for your child and they will have a souvenir to cherish!
And here is a Disney Princess autograph book for the princess-lover in your family.
Even with the advent of MagicBands, I still need a bag to carry personal items. My favorite is this cute Minnie Mouse crossbody bag. It’s compact but still just large enough to fit my cellphone, wallet, lip gloss, sunglasses and Mickey ears all in this stylish and festive bag. Here is a list with more super-cute Disney-themed crossbody bags.
The last thing you and your family need is body chaffing or blisters slowing you down and ruining your park experience. This balm is is a lifesaver – it’s long-lasting, glides on smoothly and protects against blisters and chaffing.
Trust me, you will want these. By midday in the parks, you will be sweaty, sticky and stinky. These refreshing wipes are the perfect remedy and come in handy for everyone (Hello–teenage boys in the family).
It goes without saying that you will definitely need to pack sunscreen for your Disney vacation. But I highly recommend bringing light-weight travel-size sunscreen packets that you can easily toss into your backpack. And add a stick sunscreen with a non-greasy formula like Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Non-Greasy Sunscreen Stick for Face & Body.
Pack an extra suitcase for your Disney World vacation. You will be surprised by how much stuff you acquire over a few day. There are lots of stores to tempt you at the Walt Disney World , so you will come home with more than you took to Disney. You will need extra space to carry home your Disney characters, the Donald Duck hat your daughter just had to have, Disney World t-shirts, Disney snacks, Disney Ears and so so so much more. One year we ran out of valuable suitcase space and had to run down to the gift shop at our resort and buy a new suitcase to accommodate are purchases.
10. USB Wall Charger
You will need this, especially if you have tweens and teenagers. We take two, one for us and one for our teenage boys who live on their devices. This RAVPower USB Charger is great because it’s compact and easy to pack.

11. SPF Sun Hat
A sun hat is essential, especially if you have fair skin or for the little one in the family to keep them from overheating. The one above is perfect for a fashionable look at the parks and this one comes in all sizes for the entire family.
12. Portable Fans
Getting overheated on a fun-filled day can ruin your entire experience. I recommend bringing portable fans with you to help keep everyone cool in the heat. Here are a few options that are packable, portable and just what you need to beat the heat.
13. Cooling Towels
If you can take only one item with you, this is it. They are perfect for unbearably hot days in Walt Disney World. Just wet these magical towels and wring them out…and they becomes cooler than the outside air providing instant relief. Repeat when they stop cooling, and voilà, they are cold again.
